How Much Will a New Website Cost? – Part 2 (The small website)

by Chris Pritchard General New Websites

First, let's look at the lower end of the price range. Let's say you have a budget of £500.00 or so – what will that get you? Well I cannot speak for other companies, but from us you will get a website built using a custom design to your specifications. It will have 3 – 5 pages of content, possibly a contact form. You will also get 1 year's web hosting and several email addresses. And last, but certainly not least, your site will have the ability to grow as your needs increase.

“£500.00 you say, for what is basically an online brochure. I can get my brother-in-law to do it for less than that! He knows all about websites." This is not an unusual response, so first let's break that down a little to explain what you will get for your hard-earned cash.

The first step is the design. This will be handled by one of our graphic designers, who will first send you a rough proof of the layout, and then use your feedback to make changes until it is exactly what you want.

Next, one of our developers will take the design and use it to build a website with all of the required pages. Then they will add the content, consisting of text and images.

Finally, when you are happy with everything, the site will be tested to ensure that it displays correctly in all of the popular web browsers – something which is extremely important and often overlooked by the amateur website builder.

As you can see there are quite a few steps involving several people before your new website is ready for viewing by the public. Each one of these people has to be paid, so perhaps you can see why the cost is justified.
